When two or more different elements bond together chemically, we get a chemical compound. A compound may look completely different from the elements that form it, just like a loaf of bread looks very different from its ingredients: water, flour, salt, and yeast. Because elements can combine in so many different ways and in so many different proportions, we can get a lot of different compounds from just a few elements.

Here are some common materials we encounter everyday. Choose “Yes” if the material is a compound (a combination of two or more elements bonded together), and “No” if the material is made of only one element.
