Writing a Cover Letter

Wrap-up

Whatever job you’re applying for, from receptionist to company manager, the process of writing cover letters is the same. The trick is to take stock of your experience and qualifications and organize this information in a cover letter that is professional but that also gives a sense of your personality.

In this lesson you:
  • Learned what to include in a cover letter
  • Organized information into the three-paragraph format of a cover letter
  • Practiced writing a cover letter
On your own:
  • What do you do well? Make a list of your skills and job experiences.
  • Look through the want ads, in the newspaper or online, and find a job that interests you. Write a cover letter using this list, paying close attention to the skills specified by the ad.
  • Think of the cover letters you have written before. How can they be improved?
