Suffixes are small, but powerful, word endings. They can change the meaning of a word and add richness to your vocabulary.

• As you read, look for suffixes and their root words. What do these suffixes mean? How do they change the meaning of the root word?
• Add new suffixes to a personal dictionary.
• Test yourself and see how many words you can list that contain certain suffixes. For example, how many words can you think of that use the suffix "-less?" Use a dictionary to check your answers.
