Dictionaries these days come both in print editions and online. Although each dictionary is slightly different, they all present the same basic information about words. For this lesson, we are following the format of current print dictionaries.

How do you look up a word you don’t know? First, turn to the section that lists words beginning with the same letter. Then check out the two guide words listed in alphabetical order at the top of each page. The first guide word shows the first word on that page; the second guide word shows the last word on that page. If the word you’re looking for falls between those two words, you’ll find it on that page.

Drag and drop each word onto the right dictionary page. Use the guide words to help you organize the words alphabetically.
