Planting, painting, carpeting, tiling, gardening…and all those other projects you plan to do around the house someday. How could you do them without finding the area of a wall, floor, or other surface? Knowing how to calculate area always comes in handy.
In this lesson you:
- Learned about the square units that are used to measure area
- Used the formulas A = l × w and A = s × s to figure out the areas of rectangles and squares
- Calculated areas in a house and in a garden
On your own:
- Figure out the areas of your rugs, rooms, pictures, and tables in inches, feet, yards or metric measurements.
- Plan your dream garden. Calculate the area of the various flowerbeds you will plant.
- Look up ways to find the area of other shapes, such as triangles and circles.
