Want to know what percentage of your income is deducted? Here’s one way to do the math.

Carol’s gross income is $600. She pays $150 in deductions.

  1. Divide deductions by gross income. (You may want to use a calculator here.) $150/$600 = 0.25
  2. Convert 0.25 to a percent by moving the decimal point two places to the right and adding the percent sign. So 0.25 becomes 25%.

25% of her income is deducted.

Andre’s gross pay is $950. He pays $171 in taxes and health insurance. What percentage of his income is deducted?
