Worlds Of Bacteria, Alive On Your Skin
The human body contains 10 times as many bacterial cells as it does human cells. Biologists have now taken a census of the bacteria that live on our skin, and it turns out that the diversity of life there is quite remarkable. The bacteria between our eyebrows are different from those on the elbow or in some other nook or cranny.
The bacteria are part of genuine ecosystems — akin to life on the savannah, the ocean or the rich life of a tropical rain forest.
Most of us pronounce the word bacteria with disgust and an urge to scrub something clean. The truth is, though, bacteria are all around us and serve many different and useful purposes.
What do you think about bacteria, or the fact that our bodies have more bacteria cells than human cells? Are bacteria good, bad, or something in between? Does the article above, our bacteria video, or our web lesson change how you think about bacteria? Share your thoughts.

I liked this quote from the article, "So when we think about what promotes health and what causes disease, we have to consider that it could be the bacteria and the fungi and the other microorganisms that live together with us--that they could be out of balance."
I heard that yogurt has bacteria that helps you digest your food.

Do you guys have a favorite lesson?
Could you do a lesson on apartment leases to go along with the video?
Zach,
I think that's a great idea. Lot's of people love the practical knowledge we have in our videos like Rent to Own, and I know how difficult it can be to be sure of exactly what you're signing for and what your rights are when dealing with housing. I'll definitely tell our curriculum director about your request. If you're looking for information about apartment leases or tenant rights, you might want to check out HUD's Tenant Rights page and choose the state you live in. What video were you talking about by the way?
i forgot bacteria is all around ,everywhere...
Jesse,
Not only is it all around, but it serves so many purposes. Great timely example for me is I've been eating yogurt to help soothe a funky stomach. Those probiotic bacteria seem to make me feel better. Was there any place you were surprised to learn that bacteria existed?
I personally think that bacteria is very important to have in our world, it's helpful in many ways and we could not live without it.
Megan,
I couldn't agree more. What is your favorite way bacteria are helpful?
