TV411
is first and foremost a multimedia (video, print, and web) curriculum
for teachers of adult learners who read at a 5th to 8th grade
level and who are working toward GED-level proficiency. The adults
we have in mind face a variety of educational challenges. Some
may be good readers but are frustrated by 5th grade math. Others
may need to brush up on their writing skills before reentering
the job market. Many others may have trouble understanding the
bills, letters, and documents they encounter in daily life as
parents, homemakers, workers, patients, or citizens.
Teachers who work with youth, the elderly, the incarcerated, and non-native English speakers have found TV411 useful too. Recently we have enhanced TV411 materials on the topics of health literacy and financial literacy—areas that engage adult learners of all educational backgrounds.
I like [TV411]
because it moves, it’s up-to-date and it stimulates their
creativity…[My students are] raised with TV and since
TV411 is very visual, it’s a kind of learning they’re
comfortable with. The lively, quick style holds their attention
