Post-Viewing
Activity
After watching the video, you’ll want to take a closer look at the
skills and ideas covered in the video and draw students’ attention
to the most relevant points. For a lesson with an emphasis on reading and
vocabulary, you might pose discussion questions such as these:
- “The problem was that – it wasn’t
that I couldn’t read – it’s just that
I couldn’t remember what I read.” Can
you relate to this frustration? How have you dealt with
reading difficulties in your own lives?
- What does Sheila do when she encounters an unfamiliar
word while reading?
- How does Sheila improve her concentration?
Of course, you should also feel free to talk about ideas
unrelated to the lesson objective. The fact that Sheila
is raising five young children usually earns a gasp of
appreciation from the viewers. So opening with a conversation
about parenting can be a good way to loosen up the students,
before focusing them on vocabulary building techniques.
