Before you can cover a floor with tile, you have to figure out the area. Area tells you how much surface you have to cover.

Area is measured in square units. There are square inches, square miles, square yards, and more. Here’s a diagram of a square foot. Notice that each side is 1 foot long.

Tita purchased a box of linoleum tiles to cover her kitchen floor. Each tile has an area of 1 square foot. 100 tiles came in the box. Tita used all the tiles for the job. How many square feet (sq ft) is Tita’s floor?
