You don't have to figure out a price to the last penny, unless you have a calculator on hand. An estimate will do.
Here are tricks that make math easier to do in your head.
- Round off. For example, you could round that toaster oven price of $59.99 up to $60.
- Find 10% of the price.
10% of $60 is 0.10 × $60.00 which is $6.00. In fact, to find 10% of any number, just move the decimal point of that number one place to the left. For example, 10% of $25.50 is $2.55 and 10% of $1.00 is $0.10.
