Directions

All graphs tell a story. Instead of using sentences, graphs use data — information in the form of numbers — to tell the tale. This lesson focuses on line graphs, and how to get the most out of the stories they tell.

  • Title: The title is the first clue to what the line graph is about. It gives you the set up of the story.
  • Axis label: There are usually two axes (plural of axis, pronounced ACK-sees) on a line graph. Each axis has a label that tells you what the axis measures. The graph will reveal how the two measurements are related to each other.
  • Key: There can be many sets of data on a line graph. The key tells you what each set of data represents.

All the labels have fallen off the graph on the right. Drag and Drop each label to a blank space on the graph so that it makes sense.
